Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that all four gates of the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri will open for devotees starting tomorrow morning. This decision was made following the first cabinet meeting of the new BJP government.
The temple’s gates – Simhadwara (Lion Gate), Ashwadwara (Horse Gate), Vyaghradwara (Tiger Gate), and Hastidwara (Elephant Gate) – will be opened in the presence of all ministers. Previously, all the doors were shut during the Covid-19 pandemic. Though the Simhadwara was later reopened for devotees, the other gates remained closed, causing long queues and crowding.
Opening all the gates of the Jagannath Temple was a major election promise by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Majhi expressed his commitment to fulfilling this promise, ensuring easier access for devotees.

In addition to this significant announcement, the Odisha Chief Minister shared other important decisions made in the cabinet meeting. One major decision was the establishment of a ₹500 crore corpus fund dedicated to the Shri Jagannath Temple’s upkeep and development. This fund aims to support the maintenance and improvement of the temple facilities.
The cabinet also approved a new policy to benefit farmers. The policy sets a minimum support price (MSP) for paddy at ₹3100 per quintal, which will be implemented within the next 100 days. This move is expected to provide much-needed financial stability to farmers in the region.
Another key initiative, the Subhadra Yojana, was announced to support women in Odisha. Under this program, each woman will receive a cash voucher worth ₹50,000. The relevant department has been directed to implement this scheme within the next 100 days, aiming to empower women financially.
The Odisha government’s first cabinet meeting under CM Mohan Charan Majhi brought several impactful decisions. The opening of all gates of the Jagannath Temple marks a return to normalcy for devotees, while the establishment of a significant corpus fund ensures the temple’s future upkeep.
