The upheaval in Manipur got a new stir in the media after RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat raised the ongoing issue in front of the masses in an address in Nagpur on Monday. The region had been witnessing communal violence since May last year, rendering the state legislature powerless to take any stringent action due to the complex nature of the situation.
A district lying on the borders of Assam, Jiribam is being attacked by armed militants who are not only troubling civilians of the area but also attacked the security team of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, which was enroute to the district to analyze the situation in the district.
Reports suggest that top police officials failed to take proper actions despite prior intelligence inputs regarding the plausible danger. Highlighting the same, BJP MLA and son-in-law of Chief Minister Rajkumar Imo Singh demanded stern and immediate action against the said police officers.
“We have top police officials heading the intelligence wing in our state. The state government has to initiate an enquiry regarding the lackadaisical attitude of the officers who were given prior intelligence report by the state government regarding the situation in Jiribam earlier this year,” he said.
Reports suggest that the state police had received specific input of the presence of Kuki militants in the region who were seen infiltrating the area in the month of January.
