Zelenskyy at the G7 Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the G7 Summit starting today in Italy will focus heavily on Ukraine. He stressed that discussions will revolve around Ukraine’s defense and economic resilience. Zelenskyy expressed optimism about important decisions to be made during the summit.
President Zelenskyy outlined several critical topics for Ukraine. These include forming a coalition to provide fighter jets, speeding up the training of pilots, and quickening the delivery of aircraft. Enhancing Ukraine’s air defense with advanced Western systems and increasing long-range capabilities are also priorities.
In addition, he highlighted the importance of using Russian assets to benefit Ukraine, particularly in developing its defense industry and joint weapon production.
Zelenskyy mentioned that he will hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders. He plans to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, European Council President Charles Michel, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. These meetings aim to discuss further support and cooperation for Ukraine.
One of the major highlights of the summit will be the signing of bilateral security agreements. Zelenskyy noted that an unprecedented document will be signed with US President Joe Biden, reflecting strong support for Ukraine.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will also sign a security agreement with Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized that these agreements are part of a broader Declaration of support adopted by the G7 a year ago.

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the G7 partners for their continued support. He acknowledged the unwavering belief of the G7 nations in Ukraine’s victory and highlighted the significance of these new agreements for the Ukrainian people and their warriors. The President underscored that the G7’s commitment to Ukraine remains strong.
The 50th G7 Summit, hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, is taking place in the Apulia region of Italy on June 13 and 14. Leaders from the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the European Union are attending. This year, Bharat, represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been invited as an Outreach Country. The summit marks Modi’s first trip abroad after being re-elected for a third term. Italy assumed the G7 Presidency on January 1 for the seventh time.
The G7 Summit in Italy is set to address crucial issues related to Ukraine’s defense and economic stability. With significant bilateral meetings and the signing of key security agreements, the summit aims to strengthen support for Ukraine amidst ongoing challenges.
