Ukraine and Japan have signed a significant 20-year security agreement during the G7 summit, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This agreement marks Japan’s commitment to support Ukraine with $4.5 billion in 2024 alone, continuing for the next decade.
The deal includes provisions for security and defense assistance, humanitarian aid, as well as technical and financial cooperation. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Japan for its steadfast solidarity and commitment to upholding international law.
Similar agreements have been made by Ukraine with other allies like Britain, France, and Germany since Russia’s invasion more than two years ago. A comparable agreement with the United States is also anticipated to be signed later during the summit in Italy.
