Bharat’s aviation industry has seen remarkable growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, according to Sumesh Patel, President of SITA for the Asia Pacific. SITA is a global company that provides ICT solutions to the air transport industry.
Patel highlighted that the Modi government has significantly increased the number of airports across Bharat. This expansion ensures that more people in Bharat have access to air travel, making it easier and more convenient for individuals to fly. He noted, “The airports have increased under the leadership of the Modi government, they have a very large focus on aviation.”

Bharat is a crucial market for SITA, which has been involved in the country since 1969. Air India, Bharat’s national carrier, became a member of SITA as early as 1952. Patel emphasized the importance of Bharat to SITA, stating, “India is certainly a key market for us. Aviation is one of the fastest-growing right now. So our commitment from the SITA perspective is very strong in terms of India.”
Investment in Technology and Operations
SITA has been making significant investments in back-office operations and software development in Bharat, particularly in Delhi and Gurugram. These investments are aimed at supporting the growth of the aviation sector and contributing to the broader economic development of the region. Patel mentioned, “So we are doing a lot of our back office and software development work into India, and especially in Delhi and Gurugram.”
SITA plans to introduce new technology to Bharat’s aviation sector at the lowest possible cost. This move is expected to further boost the efficiency and growth of the industry.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Bharat’s aviation sector is on track to overtake China and the United States to become the world’s third-largest air passenger market by 2030. The rising demand in the sector is also expected to increase the number of airplanes operating in the country, with projections estimating 1,100 planes by 2027.
The combination of supportive governmental policies, significant infrastructure developments, and strategic investments by companies like SITA are driving the rapid growth of Bharat’s aviation sector. This progress is not only making air travel more accessible to the Bharatiya population but is also positioning Bharat as a major player in the global aviation market.
