Early Friday morning, a mass shooting occurred at the Avalon Dance Club in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The incident claimed the lives of two people and left two others injured. The shooting reportedly started following an altercation inside the nightclub.
As per the local news source 10TV, the Columbus Division of Police was contacted around 1:45 a.m. regarding the shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene. Assistant Chief of Police Greg Bodker confirmed that one male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of this individual has not yet been revealed.
Two other individuals, both in serious condition, were transported to Grant Medical Center. Unfortunately, one of these victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The other victim is reportedly showing signs of improvement. These victims are said to be between the ages of 20 and 40.
In addition, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center received another patient who is currently in stable condition. Initial investigations suggest that the shooting broke out following an altercation, although the exact details of the dispute remain unclear.
Three Sheriff’s Deputies Shot in Illinois
In a separate incident in northern Illinois, three sheriff’s deputies were shot while responding to a call on Wednesday. The call was made from the Lost Lake neighborhood near Dixon, where a person was allegedly threatening to harm himself or others.
Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reported that the deputies were called to the property just after 8:30 a.m. by a family member concerned about the threats. Negotiators attempted to make contact with the individual over the phone just before noon. However, when the deputies entered the house, they were met with gunfire from inside.
The suspect was also injured in the exchange, but no further details about the suspect, including name, age, or place of residence, have been provided.
Three persons were taken to Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon. According to a hospital spokesperson, two of them received treatment and were later released. The condition of the third person has not been disclosed.
These two incidents highlight the dangers faced by law enforcement and the tragic consequences of gun violence in the community. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about both events.
