Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy to bolster their countries’ strategic defence ties. Both leaders emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation under Bharat’s “Make in India” initiative, aimed at enhancing self-reliance in critical sectors.
The meeting marks Macron as the first global leader to confer with PM Modi during the summit, underscoring the close bilateral relationship between Bharat and France. Key discussions included plans to intensify collaboration in defence, nuclear energy, space technology, and more.
Bharat and France have cultivated a strong partnership in various domains, particularly in defence. In addition to defence, Modi and Macron explored avenues for cooperation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), critical energy technologies, and sports. Both countries are gearing up for major international events like the AI Summit and the United Nations Oceans Conference, scheduled to be hosted in France in 2025.
The two leaders also discussed ongoing projects such as the joint development of combat aircraft engines and the construction of Scorpene submarines under the P75 programme. These initiatives underscore India’s and France’s commitment to co-producing military hardware that meets their own needs and those of friendly nations.
PM Modi expressed gratitude for Macron’s support and extended best wishes for the forthcoming Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. The meeting reaffirmed the shared vision of a stable and prosperous global order, underscoring the strategic importance of the India-France partnership in shaping international relations.
The discussions concluded with a commitment to further deepen ties through collaborative efforts in technology, education, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders reiterated their resolve to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, reflecting a shared commitment to mutual growth and prosperity.
