Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Italy. He was welcomed by Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, as Bharat participated as an ‘Outreach Nation’ in the Summit.

Meeting with Pope Francis

One of the highlights of PM Modi’s visit was his meeting with Pope Francis. The two leaders shared a warm hug, creating a memorable moment. This happened right after PM Modi arrived at the Summit venue.

During the Summit, PM Modi was seated next to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom. The two leaders were seen having a discussion, which indicates the importance of their meeting.

PM Modi is scheduled to address the ‘Outreach Session’ of the G7 Summit. In his address, he plans to focus on important topics like artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. He aims to create a synergy between the outcomes of the G20 Summit held under India’s presidency and the G7 Summit.

PM Modi arrived in Italy’s Apulia region late Thursday night to attend the G7 Outreach Summit. The Summit is being held at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort from June 13-15.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit, PM Modi met with several world leaders. He had discussions with President Emmanuel Macron of France, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

MEA Spokesperson’s Overview

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal detailed PM Modi’s engagements at the Summit. Jaiswal mentioned that it is a packed day for PM Modi with several bilateral meetings lined up. He emphasized that the Prime Minister would also be addressing the outreach session of the G7 Summit.

During his discussions at the Outreach session, PM Modi highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. He expressed that the session would be an opportunity to bring greater synergy between the G20 Summit outcomes and the G7 Summit. The discussions aim to deliberate on issues crucial for the Global South.

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This marks PM Modi’s first trip abroad after assuming office for the third consecutive term. It is also Bharat’s 11th participation and PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation at the G7 Summit. The Summit is being held at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13-15.

PM Modi is attending the summit at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This visit underscores the importance of India’s role and contributions to global discussions on critical issues.
