In a significant incident, a fierce encounter between security forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district resulted in the deaths of one security force member and eight Maoists. The clash, which began on June 12, took place in the remote and dense forest areas of Abujhmad, specifically in the regions of Kutul, Farasbeda, and Kodtameta.
The encounter is part of a joint anti-Naxal operation launched by the District Reserve Guards (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) from four districts: Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, and Dantewada. Personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 53rd Corps are also involved in this intensive operation. The engagement with Maoists has been ongoing, with intermittent firing reported since the initial clash on June 12.
As per the police officials, at least eight Maoists have been killed in one of the several encounters during this operation. Unfortunately, the security forces also suffered a casualty, with one Jawan losing his life and two others sustaining injuries. The operation is continuing as security forces aim to dismantle the Maoist presence in the region.
Escalation in Anti-Maoist Campaign
This year has seen a significant escalation in anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh. Overall, 131 Naxals have been killed as the state ramps up its efforts to combat the insurgency. This marks a dramatic increase compared to the previous year, where only 24 Maoists were killed in similar operations. The intensified efforts by the security forces are part of a broader strategy to curb Maoist activities in the region.
The heightened conflict has also resulted in increased casualties among civilians and security personnel. This year alone, 22 civilians and 10 security force members have been killed in Maoist attacks. The rising toll underscores the ongoing challenges and dangers faced by those living and working in the affected areas.

The ongoing operation in Narayanpur and surrounding districts reflects the complex and dangerous nature of the fight against Maoist insurgency. Security forces are committed to continuing their efforts to restore peace and security in the region, despite the significant risks involved. The state government and security agencies remain focused on neutralizing the Maoist threat and ensuring the safety of the local population.
As the encounter continues, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared for further operations if necessary. The success of these efforts will be crucial in determining the future stability and security of Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected regions.
