In an incident on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, a tempo traveller carrying around 23 passengers plunged into a deep gorge on Saturday. According to news agencies, the accident resulted in the death of eight people, while several others were injured.
Rescue efforts are being conducted by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with local police teams. The teams have been working tirelessly to reach and assist the victims in the difficult terrain. So far, two of the injured passengers have been transported to a hospital via ambulance for urgent medical care.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the tragic accident. In a statement, he said, “Very sad news was received about a tempo traveller accident in Rudraprayag district. The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical centre for treatment. The district magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident.”
Chief Minister Dhami also shared his condolences with the families of the victims. “I pray to God to grant the souls of the departed a place in his feet and provide strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense pain. I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he stated in a message posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
