Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid recent terrorist attacks. The meeting, held in the national capital, commenced at 11 am and included key officials such as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, and Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka.
Senior Army officers, including Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande and Chief of Army Staff (designate) Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, along with the Director General of the Central Armed Police Forces, Chief Secretary, and DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, were also present.
The meeting was prompted by a series of terrorist attacks in the region, raising concerns about security arrangements. Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, aiming to ensure the safety of pilgrims and residents.
The session followed a similar meeting held two days earlier, where Home Ministry officials briefed Shah on the current security scenario and preparedness to counter terrorist threats in Jammu and Kashmir. Heightened vigilance is intended to maintain law and order and safeguard the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.
Since June 9, terror strikes in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims, the killing of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, injuries to a civilian, and wounding at least seven security personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also convened a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the recent incidents. Attended by NSA Ajit Doval and other senior officials, the meeting aimed to evaluate the current security landscape in the region. The Prime Minister received a comprehensive overview of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and strategies to combat terrorist activities.
During the meeting, PM Modi discussed the deployment of security forces and ongoing counter-terror operations with Home Minister Amit Shah. He also spoke with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the situation, receiving updates on the measures being undertaken by the local administration.
