Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Sunday that the “fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in its decisive phase,” urging all security agencies to “work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner.” This statement was made during a review meeting on the security scenario in the region.
The Home Minister emphasized replicating the successes achieved in the Kashmir Valley through area domination and the zero terror plan in the Jammu division. The meeting, held in the national capital, was structured into two rounds, lasting five hours in total, and included a short break.
Shah highlighted recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that terrorism has been reduced from highly organized acts to a proxy war. He stressed the government’s determination to eradicate all forms of terrorism, noting that the Modi administration is committed to innovative strategies in this fight.
Reiterating the zero-tolerance policy against terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah assured that the government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts. He noted that the central government’s initiatives have significantly reduced terror-related incidents in the Kashmir Valley, evidenced by the record number of tourists visiting the region.
The meeting, which began at 11 am, saw the attendance of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, and Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka. Senior Army officers, including Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande and Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, along with other top officials, also participated.
In the wake of recent terrorist attacks, the meeting aimed to review preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to start on June 29 and conclude on August 19. Shah conducted this meeting just two days after a similar session with Home Ministry officials to discuss the current security situation and preparedness.
Since June 9, there have been terror strikes in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims, a CRPF jawan, injuries to a civilian, and at least seven security personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to address the security situation following the recent terror incidents. He received a comprehensive overview of counter-terrorism efforts in the region and discussed strategies with NSA Ajit Doval and other senior officials.
