On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 17th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, distributing over Rs 20,000 crore to approximately 9.26 crore farmers in Uttar Pradesh through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Since its launch, the PM-KISAN scheme has disbursed over Rs 3.04 lakh crore to more than 11 crore eligible farmer families, highlighting its significant impact and broad benefits.
During his visit to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on June 18-19, PM Modi will also unveil several major initiatives. A press release announced that the Prime Minister will grant certificates to over 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs), recognizing them as Krishi Sakhis. These women will be integral to the Krishi Sakhi Convergence Program (KSCP), which aims to empower women as Para-extension Workers and advance rural development. This initiative aligns with the “Lakhpati Didi” Program, focused on boosting economic self-sufficiency among rural women.
On June 19, PM Modi will inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar. This collaborative project between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries will feature modern facilities, including two academic blocks with 40 classrooms, two 300-seat auditoriums, a student hostel for 550 students, an International Centre, an Amphitheatre for 2,000 people, a Faculty Club, and a Sports Complex. The campus, designed as a “Net Zero” green facility, includes a solar plant, water treatment systems, and extensive water bodies, ensuring sustainability and minimal environmental impact.
Reviving the legacy of the ancient Nalanda University, established around 1,600 years ago and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016, the new campus will accommodate around 1,900 students.
Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary begins on June 18 in Uttar Pradesh, where he will participate in the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan in Varanasi at 5 pm. Later, he will attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat and visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple at 8 pm. On June 19, he will visit the Ruins of Nalanda at 9:45 am before inaugurating the new Nalanda University campus at 10:30 am, where he will address a gathering on the university’s historical and contemporary significance.
