The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the Reasi terror attack case in Jammu and Kashmir, initiating a comprehensive probe to uncover the conspiracy behind the attack, officials announced on Monday.
The anti-terror agency took charge of the investigation from Jammu and Kashmir Police on June 15, filing a fresh First Information Report (FIR) under orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The attack, which occurred on June 9, targeted a bus carrying pilgrims, coinciding with the Union Cabinet’s swearing-in ceremony, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
During the attack, the bus plunged into a gorge in Reasi district, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals and injuring 33 others. The following day, an NIA team visited the site to assist local authorities and assess the situation. The NIA’s forensic experts also examined the scene to gather crucial evidence.
As India’s premier counter-terrorism agency, the NIA frequently collaborates with state police on high-profile and sensitive cases. Their involvement in the Reasi case is expected to enhance the investigation and ensure a meticulous review of the evidence.
The terrorists struck the bus as it was traveling from the Ransoo area of Reasi district. Rescue operations were promptly carried out, with the injured transported to nearby hospitals. According to police reports, the bus was ferrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra when it came under attack in Teryath village, Pouni area, Reasi district, near the Rajouri district border, around 6:10 pm on June 9.
