A fire broke out early Monday morning in a home southwest of Atlanta, claiming the lives of six people, including three children. The Coweta County Coroner’s Office reported that the children’s ages were 6, 12, and 13.
The oldest victim in the tragedy was in their 70s, and the identities of the victims have not yet been released to the public.
In total, eleven people were inside the house when the fire erupted. Five individuals managed to survive and were immediately taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Some of the survivors suffered serious injuries, according to a statement from Coweta County Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just north of Newnan, Georgia, at 4:57 a.m. The first fire unit arrived within nine minutes, finding more than half of the home engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading from the roof, according to fire officials.
Among the firefighters responding to the incident, one sustained minor injuries.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss,” the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “We ask that everyone please keep the victims and their loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.”

The small community of Newnan, located about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Atlanta, is reeling from the loss.
Coweta County Fire Rescue is collaborating with county and state fire marshals, as well as the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, to determine the cause of the fire.
