Days after being sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time, Narendra Modi visited Varanasi, where he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the third consecutive term. During his visit, he attended a Kisan Samman Sammelan, a large event for farmers, along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other officials.
PM Modi’s Address to the Crowd
Addressing a massive crowd, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the people of Varanasi. Speaking in Bhojpuri initially, he said, “I greet the people of Varanasi. Thanks to the blessings of Baba Vishwanath and Ma Ganga and the love of the people of Varanasi, I have had the privilege of becoming the country’s Pradhan Sevak for the third time. I now feel that Ma Ganga has adopted me and I have become a part of Varanasi.”
Modi highlighted the strength and depth of Bharat’s democracy, noting that over 64 crore (640 million) people voted in the recent elections. He mentioned that Bharat’s number of voters is 1.5 times that of all G7 countries combined. “The elections for the 18th Lok Sabha have shown the world the strength, scope and deep-rootedness of India’s democracy,” he said.
The Prime Minister praised the participation of women voters, calling it a matter of pride for Varanasi. He noted that it is rare for a sitting government to return to power for a third time, a feat last achieved in Bharat 60 years ago. “You gave us this privilege, you gave it to your servant Modi… Your belief in me spurs me on to work hard to serve you and take the country to new heights,” he said.
Modi emphasized that his government’s first actions have been for the poor and farmers. He mentioned the building of 3 crore (30 million) new houses for the poor and the extension of the Kisan Samman Nidhi, an income support scheme for farmers. “Just some time ago, crores of families across the country have received ₹20,000 crore as part of the Kisan Samman Nidhi,” he said.
The Prime Minister spoke about the importance of agriculture in making Bharat the third-largest economy. He mentioned the global reach of agricultural products like Varanasi’s Langda mango, Jaunpur’s radish, and Ghazipur’s ladyfinger. “We have to think global and become a leader in exports. My dream is to see an Indian food product on every dining table in the world,” he said.
Modi highlighted the role of women in agriculture through the Krishi Sakhi scheme, which trains women to do agricultural work. He stressed that women’s involvement will benefit the agricultural sector.
