Mechievilie Yashü from Dihoma village in Kohima district has made history by becoming the first football referee from Nagaland to qualify as a national referee under the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Yashü’s achievement follows his successful completion of the AIFF Level 5 exam, with results announced on June 16.
In a commendation letter to the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Suresh Srinivasan, Director of State Referees, expressed AIFF’s pleasure in confirming that Yashü, with referee registration number RIN-120013, has achieved National Referee (Level 5) status.
Yashü distinguished himself by excelling in all four required examinations – Fitness, Theory, Practical, and Viva – culminating in this significant milestone.
The exams, conducted from April 15 to 17 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, saw over 64 candidates nationwide vying for the referee qualification, with only 25 passing. Meanwhile, 90 candidates attempted the assistant referee exam, with 28 succeeding.
With his new qualification, Yashü is now eligible to officiate at various national-level tournaments across the country, marking a pivotal step in his referee career.
