Pop star Justin Timberlake was arraigned on one count of driving while intoxicated and subsequently released from police custody, his attorney confirmed.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor, New York. According to the police, Timberlake, 43, was observed at 12:37 a.m. operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition. He was driving a 2025 BMW when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and veered out of his lane.
A statement from the Sag Harbor Police revealed that Timberlake told the officer who pulled him over that he “had one martini and I followed my friends home,” as per court records. The officer noted that Timberlake appeared unable to divide his attention, had slowed speech, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.
Additionally, Timberlake refused to undergo a chemical test three times, stating, “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.” He was subsequently arrested and held overnight for arraignment.
In addition to the DUI charge, Timberlake was cited for running a stop sign and failing to maintain his lane, his attorney Ed Burke told CNN. He was released without bail and is scheduled to appear virtually in court on July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
Sag Harbor, located in the Hamptons on eastern Long Island, was the scene of Timberlake’s arrest. A source disclosed that he left the American Hotel shortly before being apprehended.
The court documents noted that Timberlake’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and that his breath had a strong odor of alcohol.
Timberlake, who rose to fame as a member of the boy band *NSYNC before launching a successful solo career, is currently on his “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.” His next court appearance comes amidst a busy tour schedule with concerts in Chicago and New York City.
ABC News has reached out to Timberlake’s representatives for comment.
