Mayralborn Syiem, a senior leader of Meghalaya’s United Democratic Party (UDP), has called for the urgent resumption of border talks with Assam to address ongoing conflicts and ensure peace in the region.
Syiem highlighted the State Government’s responsibility to maintain peace amidst reports of frequent disputes in border areas. He asserted Meghalaya stands firm on not conceding any land to Assam, affirming the protection of indigenous interests.
As a member of the committee overseeing the border issue, Syiem highlighted the committee’s commitment to securing outcomes that benefit Meghalaya’s indigenous population. Talks between the States are expected to recommence soon, aiming to resolve disputes across six border areas.
The UDP leader’s statement highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving territorial disputes while safeguarding the interests of Meghalaya’s people.
