An Israeli man was found shot dead in the Palestinian town of Qalqilya in the northern West Bank on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Israeli army. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Israeli troops are currently active in the area following the incident. The military did not release further details about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
This shooting follows an incident on Friday where Israeli forces shot and killed two militants in Qalqilya. The West Bank has seen a significant increase in violence since the Israel-Hamas war began last October.
Israeli nationals are not allowed to enter Qalqilya and other West Bank areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority. Tensions have historically run high in these regions.
In 2014, the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank escalated into a 50-day war between Israel and Hamas, marking one of the deadliest rounds of fighting between the two sides.

The Palestinian Authority’s control in the northern West Bank has weakened over recent years, with militant groups gaining more power. The current Israel-Hamas war erupted on October 7 when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the capture of around 250 hostages.
Israel’s response to the Hamas attack has involved extensive bombings and invasions in Gaza.
Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem during the 1967 Mideast war. The conflict remains a significant source of tension and violence in the region.
