Air Force Joint Exercise
From June 21 to June 26, 2024, the Air Forces of India and Egypt conducted their fourth joint exercise, showcasing the strengthening of defence cooperation between the two countries. The exercise, named HOPEX, took place at the Berighat Air Base in Egypt. Participating aircraft included the C-17, IL-78, and Rafale jets, demonstrating the advanced capabilities of both air forces.
India’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ajit Gupte, visited the Berighat Air Base during the exercise. He interacted with the Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent, highlighting the importance of the collaboration. The Indian Embassy in Egypt shared this update on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the ongoing and growing defence ties between India and Egypt.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured his third term in office with the support of coalition parties, including Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP. India and Egypt share a close political understanding, rooted in a long history of cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues. Diplomatic relations at the Ambassador level were established on August 18, 1947. Both nations have cooperated closely in multilateral fora and were founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement. In 2022, India and Egypt celebrated the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
The fourth joint exercise between the Air Forces of India and Egypt marks a significant step in their defence cooperation. With high-level visits and mutual congratulations between the leaders of both nations, the future looks promising for India-Egypt relations. This partnership, built on a strong historical foundation, continues to evolve and strengthen in various domains, including defence, politics, and diplomacy.
