After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took charge of the NEET-UG paper leak investigation, they identified Sanjeev Kumar ‘Mukhiya’ as the primary suspect.
The 51-year old Mukhiya, believed to lead the ‘Solver Gang,’ an interstate network selling solved question papers for competitive exams. Currently absconding, he has filed an anticipatory bail plea in a local court.
Having a history of involvement in exam rackets, dating back over two decades, Mukhiya has initially worked with Ranjeet Don, a notorious figure in the 90s and early 2000s.
A technical assistant at Udyan Vidyalaya in Nalanda’s Noorsarai, Mukhiya has been linked to multiple paper leak cases, including the Bihar Teachers’ Recruitment Exam, for which his son, Dr. Shiv alias Bitu, was arrested earlier this year.
The investigation revealed that Mukhiya’s aide, Baldev Kumar, received a solved NEET-UG question paper on May 5, which candidates were then made to memorize. Baldev and four other ‘Solver Gang’ members were arrested in Jharkhand’s Deoghar.
Mukhiya’s wife, Mamata Devi, previously a member of the Janata Dal (United), unsuccessfully contested the 2020 Assembly elections with the Lok Janshakti Party. Opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has highlighted Mukhiya’s political connections, demanding a thorough investigation into the scandal’s widespread implications.
As the investigation progresses, efforts are focused on apprehending Mukhiya and dismantling the ‘Solver Gang’ to ensure the integrity of competitive exams.
