On Tuesday Congress MP Rahul Gandhi appointed as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.
Congress Party General Secretary KC Venugopal announced the decision after the conclusion of the meeting of the floor leaders of the opposition parties at Party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi.
This announcement has come up after days of suspense over the name for the LoP in Lok Sabha by the opposition.
Notably, the lower house in the Parliament will see a Leader of Opposition for the first time in ten years, ever since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government of the NDA came to power in 2014.
Addressing a press briefing, KC Venugopal said, ‘Wrote a letter to pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, informing the decision of appointment of Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha’.
After the Lok Sabha election, the Congress had passed a single-line resolution to appoint Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
