Japan issued an emergency alert early Tuesday after a suspected ballistic missile launch by North Korea. The alert was shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on the social media platform X. The alert caused initial concern among the public and officials.
Minutes after issuing the alert, the Prime Minister’s Office lifted the emergency warning. They confirmed that the suspected ballistic missile was not expected to reach Japan. Despite this, the office emphasized the need for caution and instructed relevant authorities to stay vigilant.

The Prime Minister’s Office has directed officials to focus on gathering and analyzing information regarding the missile. They stressed the importance of providing timely and accurate information to the public. “Dedicate maximum effort to gather and analyze information, and provide the public speedy and adequate information,” the office stated.
Additionally, the PMO highlighted the need to ensure the safety of aircraft, vessels, and other assets. Officials were asked to take all necessary precautions and be ready for any potential contingencies. “Ensure the safety of aircraft, vessels, and other assets,” the PMO added. “Take all possible measures for precaution, including readiness for contingencies.”
This incident comes amid growing concerns for the United States, Japan, and South Korea due to North Korea’s repeated missile tests. Earlier this month, the three countries released a joint statement strongly opposing any unilateral changes to the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region and condemning North Korea’s ballistic missile launches.
The United States, Japan, and South Korea have agreed to maintain close coordination on North Korean issues and other regional challenges. They plan to establish a new coordinating body to better align their policies and responses. This cooperation aims to strengthen regional and global stability.
