As per an official statement from the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions were aimed at deepening relations in various areas, including defense and security cooperation, promoting and strengthening democracy, and adapting to climate change. The statement emphasized the mutual commitment to these important issues.
Secretary Blinken shared a photo on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, showing him with Foreign Minister Zameer before their meeting. Blinken expressed his enthusiasm for enhancing the partnership between the United States and the Maldives, particularly in climate, economic growth, and maritime security.

Foreign Minister Zameer also posted on X about the meeting, expressing his delight at meeting Blinken. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening its partnership with the US in tackling climate change, promoting democracy, and ensuring maritime security.

Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to exploring new ways to enhance their partnership. They recognized the importance of maintaining a rules-based international order and expressed their commitment to regional stability, maritime security, and peace.
Blinken congratulated the Maldives on its recent successful Presidential and Parliamentary elections. He acknowledged the Maldives’ leadership in international efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
During the meeting, Minister Zameer highlighted the importance of educational opportunities provided by the United States. He noted that easier visa facilitation services for Maldivians would promote cultural exchange, tourism, and business ties between the two countries, further strengthening their relationship.
