The US State Department has praised India’s recent Lok Sabha elections, calling them the “largest exercise of democracy in the history of the world.” Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, highlighted the significance of this event during a press briefing on Wednesday. He described the election as an “extraordinary achievement.”
Miller emphasized that the US government does not take sides in the outcome of India’s elections. He stated that it is up to the people of India to decide their leaders and future.
When questioned about reports suggesting that some groups and individuals in the US are attempting to undermine democracy in India by sending money to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Miller did not comment on these specific reports. However, he reiterated the US government’s admiration for India’s democratic process.

The Congress party also made significant gains, winning 99 seats. The INDI alliance, an alliance of various parties, secured over 230 seats, presenting strong competition and defying many pre-election predictions.
