Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal is solidifying its name in Brutality against women. Tragedy struck once again after a TMC leader dragged, thrashed, stripped naked a woman leader from the BJP at Cooch Behar in West Bengal. The victim was dragged for 1 km by her hair and thrashed for over an hour by goons for supporting the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Thursday. The incident occurred in Ruidanga village in Matha Bhanga-II block in Coochbehar district of West Bengal. Currently, the victim is undergoing treatment at the Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College & Hospital.
The woman filed a complaint at Ghoksadanga Police Station in Mathabhanga, which led to the arrest of four.
The BJP on Thursday said political violence in West Bengal is a major concern, especially under the Mamata Banerjee-led government. It alleged that a woman worker was stripped and beaten up for supporting the saffron party in Cooch Behar district. ‘There is a Sandeshkhali in every village of the state, referring to the village in the Basirhat subdivision of North 24 Parganas district’, said Senior BJP leader Amit Malviya.
Notably, the area was in the news as a number of women residents made sexual assault allegations against now-jailed TMC Shahjahan Sheikh and his men.
“There is a #Sandeshkhali in every village of Bengal. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice. Concerns over political violence and safety of women under Mamata Banerjee remains a huge concern”, he said in a post on X, where he posted a video of the woman worker in a hospital after the alleged assault.
The violence in Sandeshkhali village in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal highlights the atrocities committed against women by former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides Shibu Prasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar.
Many women have come forward to tell the stories of land grabbing, and sexual violence perpetrated against them by the trio.
The agitation led by women led to the arrest of the 3 TMC goons. Trinamool Congress, led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have left no way to trivialise the sexual violence committed against women in Sandeshkhali.
The National Commission for Women took note of the alleged attack on a BJP woman worker in West Bengal and had demanded a detailed action report which is to be submitted to the Commission within three days.
‘The accused must be arrested promptly, and the victim provided free medical treatment. A fair, time-bound investigation is required, with a detailed action taken report to be submitted to the Commission within 3 days’, the NCW wrote in a post on X, mentioning the Kolkata Police.
