On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned 13 people involved in the NEET question paper leak case at Beur jail in Patna, Bihar. This interrogation was conducted after the CBI received permission from the special CBI court. Among the accused, six are allegedly part of an exam mafia, while four are candidates and three are parents.
Masterminds Behind the Leak
During the interrogation, most of the accused pointed fingers at Sanjeev Kumar, also known as Sanjeev Mukhiya, and Sikandar Yadvendu as the masterminds behind the NEET paper leak. However, the statements from the accused varied in some details.
According to sources, the CBI is actively searching for Mukhiya, but he remains at large. An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Mukhiya’s name was mentioned by all those arrested in connection with the paper leak. They also highlighted a connection to Mukhiya’s group, known as the Mukhiya gang.
On June 28, the CBI court granted remand for Oasis school principal Ehsanul Haque, vice-principal Imtiaz Alam, and journalist Jamaluddin for interrogation.
They were brought to Patna from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, on charges of tampering with question papers. The CBI interrogated them face to face and is also investigating the principal’s call details and his connections in Bihar.
Further Arrests and Interrogations
The court had earlier given remand for Ashutosh Kumar and Manish Prakash for further questioning. Ashutosh and Manish were arrested by the CBI in Patna on June 27. Manish was charged with arranging accommodation at Ashutosh’s request. The CBI is also interrogating Baldev Kumar, also known as Chintu, and Mukesh Kumar on remand.
The CBI’s investigation into the NEET paper leak continues, with efforts to track down the remaining masterminds and uncover the full extent of the cheating network. The case highlights the involvement of multiple individuals across different states, pointing to a well-organized scheme to manipulate one of India’s most important entrance exams.
