On Friday, Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) had to be closed after the roof collapsed. This unfortunate incident caused major disruptions, affecting as many as 22,615 passengers.

Following the roof collapse, flights from T1 were canceled. However, the operations were quickly shifted to Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3) over the weekend, avoiding further cancellations.

The civil aviation ministry reported that refunds have been issued to many passengers. Specifically, 9,972 passengers booked on IndiGo and SpiceJet flights have received refunds. However, the refund process for 196 passengers is still pending.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu personally inspected the Airport Operations Control Centre. He met with officials from his ministry, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), and various airlines to review the situation.

A detailed assessment was conducted to ensure smooth functioning after the shift of flights to T2 and T3. The aviation ministry stated that additional manpower would be deployed to manage the increased passenger flow.

The DGCA held a briefing on the activation of war rooms to ensure close coordination between DIAL and the airlines. Minister Naidu emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous standards to ensure seamless operations and prioritize passenger safety.

The roof collapse, caused by heavy rains and winds, led to one death and eight injuries. DIAL has formed a technical committee to investigate the incident and announced compensation of ₹20 lakh to the family of the deceased and ₹3 lakh to each of the injured.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working hard to restore normal operations and ensure the safety and convenience of all passengers. The aviation ministry and airport officials are committed to making necessary improvements to prevent such incidents in the future.
