Today, ahead of the Lok Sabha session, several Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, gathered outside the Parliament building to protest. They expressed concerns over the alleged misuse of central probe agencies like the CBI and Enforcement Directorate by the central government. The protest highlights ongoing tensions regarding the government’s handling of investigative agencies, seen by critics as politically motivated.
Uproar Over NEET Paper Leak and Adjournment Motions
Simultaneously, Opposition uproar continues inside Parliament over the NEET paper leak issue. Congress MPs have moved adjournment motions to address the matter urgently. This follows disruptions in previous sessions where discussions on alleged irregularities in the NEET results were denied by the Speaker of Lok Sabha, leading to acrimonious scenes and adjournments.
Amidst these protests and adjournments, Congress MP Manish Tewari has initiated a debate on three new criminal laws coming into effect today. These laws, namely the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, replace colonial-era laws. Tewari argues these laws could potentially transform India into a “Police State” and has called for their immediate re-examination by Parliament.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Proceedings
Friday’s Lok Sabha session ended abruptly after Speaker Om Birla denied the Opposition’s demand for discussing NEET irregularities. In the Rajya Sabha, a lackluster debate ensued after repeated adjournments and an Opposition walkout. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the handling of discussions, alleging that despite his attempts to speak, he was not given an opportunity, sparking further controversy.
This series of events underscores the intense parliamentary dynamics as critical issues ranging from alleged misuse of investigative agencies to legislative reforms dominate the national discourse.
