In a significant change, ministers from all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies have been included in the government’s cabinet committees formed on Wednesday. This marks a departure from the practice since October 2020, when only ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were part of these committees. The last minister from an alliance partner to be included in a committee was Ram Vilas Paswan in September 2020.
Two prominent cabinet ministers from the BJP-led NDA’s major allies have been appointed to crucial panels. Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, from the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] and K Rammohan Naidu from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have been included in the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA).
In addition, one minister from two other allies has been appointed to significant committees. Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is now part of the Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth. Meanwhile, Jitan Ram Manjhi from the Hindustani Awam Morcha has joined the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs.
Two Union ministers with independent charges from Ally parties have also been given special roles. Jayant Chaudhary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has become a special invitee to the Cabinet Committee on Skill, Employment, and Livelihood. Pratap Rao Jadhav of the Shiv Sena has been included as a special invitee to the Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads six of the cabinet committees, while Home Minister Amit Shah heads the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh heads the CCPA. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also been made a member of the CCEA.
Amit Shah is a member of all eight panels, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is in seven committees, Rajnath Singh is in six, and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal are members of five committees each.

This recent move to include ministers from NDA allies in various cabinet committees signals a shift from the previous BJP-only representation. Key leaders, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, oversee important panels, while critical committees like the Cabinet Committee on Security continue to have only BJP ministers for crucial decisions.
Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of diverse cabinet committees with key members like Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Jayant Chaudhary aims to ensure effective governance and decision-making across different sectors.
