The Indian cricket team, who won the Men’s T20 World Cup on June 29, landed at the IGI Airport in New Delhi early Thursday morning. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, celebrated their second T20 World Cup win after defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval on Saturday.
Their journey home was delayed by Hurricane Beryl, which left them stranded for three days. To bring the team back, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arranged a special chartered flight with Air India, named ‘AIC24WC’ (Air India Champions 24 World Cup). This Boeing 777 flight departed from Newark, New Jersey, and arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown early Wednesday morning.
The flight, carrying the team, support staff, players’ families, BCCI officials, and 22 media personnel, took off from Bridgetown at 4:50 am local time. After landing in New Delhi, the team headed to the ITC Maurya Hotel. They had a special breakfast meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, to celebrate their victory.
In the afternoon, the team is scheduled to fly to Mumbai, departing from New Delhi at 2 pm and arriving at 4 pm. In Mumbai, they will participate in a victory parade, starting from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NPCA) at 5 pm and traveling through Marine Drive. The parade will end at Wankhede Stadium, allowing fans to see their favorite players and celebrate the win.
From 7 to 7:30 pm, a small ceremony will be held at Wankhede Stadium to honor the team. After the event, the players will head to their hotel, concluding a day of celebrations for their remarkable achievement in bringing home a major trophy after 11 years.
