The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in the investigation of alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exams 2024. Recently, they apprehended Aman Singh, identified as a key conspirator, in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. This arrest marks the seventh in connection with the case, which has drawn attention due to suspected malpractice.
Earlier, the CBI had detained several individuals, including the principal and vice principal of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. They were accused of facilitating exam irregularities. In addition, arrests were made in Gujarat and Patna, involving a school owner and individuals suspected of aiding exam candidates through unauthorized means.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exam, has faced severe criticism amid allegations of paper leaks and cheating. This has sparked widespread protests across the country, with demands for accountability and calls to reform or disband the NTA.
The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a series of petitions on July 8 concerning the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam. The court had earlier sought responses from the NTA, highlighting concerns about the exam’s integrity and the impact of alleged malpractices on candidates.
Responding to the controversy, the central government and the NTA announced the cancellation of grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates. They offered these candidates the option to either retake the exam or forgo the compensatory marks. A retest was conducted on June 23, attended by 813 students across seven centers, to address the situation.
As investigations continue and legal proceedings unfold, the NEET-UG case remains a focal point of public concern and judicial scrutiny. The outcomes of the ongoing legal proceedings and the measures taken by authorities will likely shape future policies regarding national entrance examinations in India.
