Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra has sparked a fresh controversy with her derogatory remarks on National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma.
Commenting on a video posted on X showing the NCW chairperson’s arrival at the site of a stamped that recently took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, Mahua wrote, ‘She is too busy holding up her boss pyjamas’.
The video that went viral, showed Sharma walking while someone behind her held an umbrella. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognizance Rekha Sharma and sought an FIR against her.
The NCW said in a post on X, ‘The crude remarks are outrageous and a violation of a woman’s right to dignity. The Commission observed that this remark attracts Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 2023’.
The NCW said it strongly condemns the defamatory remarks and requests strict action against Moitra. ‘An Fir should be registered against Moitra and a detailed action reports should be communicated to the Commission within 3 days’, the NCW wrote.
‘I Can Hold My Own Umbrella’. Moitra quickly responded, taking to social media to challenge the NCW’s actions. She urged the police to promptly act on the NCW’s statement, stating that she is currently in Nadia.
‘Come on @DelhiPolice please take action immediately on these suo moto orders. Am in Nadia in case you need me in the next 3 days to make a quick arrest. I Can Hold My Own Umbrella’, Moitra wrote.
The BJP flayed Mahua Moitra over her derogatory comments and demanded that she be backed from her party.
