The counselling for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 has been postponed until further notice. This delay affects the all-India quota (AIQ) seat counselling that was supposed to start on July 6. The Supreme Court recently decided not to postpone the counselling which had been scheduled for today.
Supreme Court to Hear NEET UG Pleas
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will hear various pleas regarding NEET UG 2024 on July 8. These pleas include allegations of a paper leak, demands for the cancellation and reconduction of the medical entrance exam, and requests for an investigation into the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET UG counselling is conducted in multiple rounds, including stray vacancy rounds and mop-up rounds. Students who pass the medical entrance test need to register, pay the counselling fees, select and lock their choices, upload necessary documents, and report in person to the allotted institute.

Seats Under 15% AIQ
The NEET UG counselling under the 15% AIQ includes seats in government colleges, central and deemed universities, and seats reserved for children of Insured Persons (IP quota) in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical colleges. It also includes seats available at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency released the results of the retest conducted on June 23 for 813 candidates out of 1563. After the retest, the number of toppers decreased from 67 to 61. Six candidates who had previously scored perfect 720/720 due to grace marks did not achieve a perfect score in the retest, although they still scored above 680.
The delay in counselling has added uncertainty for students who were eagerly waiting to start their next steps in securing a seat in medical colleges. Many students and parents are anxious about the outcome of the upcoming Supreme Court hearing and the potential changes it may bring to the NEET UG process.
