Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia is seen as a significant event, with many important discussions planned between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Abhay Kumar Singh, a member of the United Russia party from Kursk, shared details about the visit, highlighting the excitement and enthusiasm among the Russian public and leadership.
Singh mentioned that PM Modi’s visit has been eagerly awaited for the past two years, and both President Putin and the local people have been looking forward to it. Upon his arrival in Moscow, PM Modi received a Guard of Honour at Vnukovo-II International Airport, with Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov greeting him personally, which is a rare gesture.
During the visit, PM Modi and President Putin are expected to discuss several crucial global issues. These include defense deals, cultural exchanges, economic matters, and geopolitical topics. Singh highlighted the successful collaboration between India and Russia in defense, citing the BrahMos missile as an example. He mentioned that more defense agreements would be made, with plans to manufacture Russian arms in India.
Cultural discussions will also play a significant role in the talks. Singh noted that Hindi films have been popular in Russia and the former Soviet Union, and there has been a growing interest in South Indian cinema in recent years. This cultural exchange is expected to strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Economic topics will be another focus of the meetings. Singh stated that discussions would include the Rupee-Ruble trade, which aims to strengthen the currencies of both countries. He explained that neighboring countries of India, such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, will use the Indian currency, while Russia’s neighboring nations, like Belarus and Kazakhstan, will use the Russian currency.
Geopolitical issues will undoubtedly be part of the discussions as well. Singh emphasized that the whole world is watching these talks, and the outcomes could potentially change the global situation.

PM Modi’s visit to Russia includes a meeting with President Putin and attendance at a community event in Moscow. Over the past 10 years, Modi and Putin have met 16 times, with their last in-person meeting taking place at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand in 2022. In 2019, PM Modi was awarded Russia’s highest state honor, the Order of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First.
Abhay Kumar Singh, who has been living in Kursk since 1991 and became a Russian citizen in 2010, shared his journey. He studied at the Kursk State Medical Institute and later graduated from the Tver State Medical Academy as a physician.
Singh also earned a degree in organization management from the Russian State Social University in 2013. His insights into PM Modi’s visit underline the significance of this event for both India and Russia.
