A Delhi court has issued a production warrant for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case. The case was registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of their investigation into the Delhi excise policy.
Supplementary Chargesheets and Accused Individuals
The court also took notice of two supplementary chargesheets filed by the ED. One was the seventh supplementary chargesheet, which named Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as accused. The other was the eighth supplementary chargesheet, which led to the issuance of a production warrant for Vinod Chauhan and a summons for Ashish Mathur, another accused.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja reviewed the chargesheets and found enough evidence to proceed with the case against the accused. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 12, when all the accused, including Kejriwal, will be brought before the court.
The 200-page chargesheet filed by the ED on May 17 accused Kejriwal of being deeply involved in policy formulation, a kickback scheme, and the use of illicit money. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 after the Delhi High Court denied him interim protection from arrest.
The ED has accused Kejriwal of serious economic offenses and claims to have substantial evidence linking him to money laundering. They also alleged that Kejriwal was connected to Vinod Chauhan, who was involved in transferring ₹25.5 crore from Delhi to Goa.
Vinod Chauhan was apprehended on May 3 at the ED’s Goa office under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Ashish Mathur, an associate of Chauhan, has been charged but not arrested. Chauhan’s involvement was highlighted due to his close association with Kejriwal and a series of emails between them that were seized by the ED.
The court will continue to examine the evidence and proceed with the case against Kejriwal and the other accused. The upcoming hearing on July 12 will be a critical moment in this ongoing investigation.
This case is part of a broader investigation into alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy and involves multiple individuals and complex financial transactions. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party.
