During the NATO Summit in Washington, the East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) called upon NATO nations to address the ongoing atrocities against the Uyghur community in China’s Xinjiang region. Salih Hudayar, Foreign Affairs Minister of ETGE, emphasized the urgent need for NATO to recognize and counter Chinese actions.
Hudayar highlighted the historical plight of East Turkistan and urged NATO to stand against what he termed as Chinese imperialism and expansionism.
Hudayar’s message conveyed through a video statement, urged NATO to uphold its principles of independence, justice, and collective security. He emphasized that NATO’s role in combating tyranny and oppression is crucial in confronting China’s ambitions. According to Hudayar, East Turkistan has faced colonization, genocide, and severe human rights violations since 1949, following the PRC’s overthrow of the independent East Turkestan Republic.
The ETGE leader accused the Chinese government of forcibly detaining millions of Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in concentration camps and prisons. He described these actions as part of China’s broader strategy to suppress cultural identity and impose its authority.

Hudayar warned that China’s aggressive actions, including territorial claims and economic influence through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, threaten global security and undermine international norms.
Highlighting the broader implications, Hudayar stressed that NATO’s response is critical to defending democracy, individual liberty, sovereignty, and the rule of law worldwide. He emphasized that allowing China’s aggression to continue unchecked could jeopardize the foundational principles upon which NATO was established.
The ETGE leader framed the issue as a global fight for independence, sovereignty, democracy, and human rights. He urged NATO to take decisive action against Chinese expansionism and uphold the values that NATO member nations stand for. The appeal comes amidst escalating tensions over China’s treatment of ethnic minorities and its growing influence on the global stage.
