On Friday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed charges against two individuals in connection with the ISIS terror conspiracy case linked to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra module.
Mohammed Zoheb Khan, arrested by NIA in February, and Libya-based Mohammed Shoeb Khan have been charged in a plot to promote ISIS’s anti-India agenda. The duo aimed to recruit vulnerable youth to execute terror attacks at critical locations across India.
The chargesheet, presented to the NIA Special Court in Mumbai, names the pair as key conspirators in case NIA RC-01/2024/NIA/MUM and charges them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).
NIA investigations have unveiled international links to the conspiracy, involving foreign-based ISIS handlers.
The anti-terror agency’s probe revealed the accused’s plan to flee to Afghanistan or Turkey after carrying out terror attacks in India. They were also developing a website to promote ISIS’s extremist ideology and attract global youth.
Mohammed Zoheb Khan, recruited by Mohammed Shoeb Khan, created a WhatsApp group to radicalize over 50 youths from the Aurangabad area.
The accused shared videos on manufacturing explosives and fabricating IEDs. They planned and prepared for multiple terror attacks in India, intending to jeopardize the nation’s safety, secular ethos, and democratic systems. The NIA continues its efforts to dismantle ISIS modules in India.
