In a devastating incident in central Nepal, two passenger buses were swept away by a landslide early Friday morning near Simaltal along the Narayanghat-Mugling road. The buses, including the Kathmandu-bound Angel Deluxe Bus and another heading to Gaur from Kathmandu, vanished into the rain-swollen Trishuli River. This has led to a major search and rescue operation as families anxiously wait for news of their loved ones.
As the search continues, rescuers have recovered the bodies of two individuals, an Indian, and a Nepali national, from the banks of the Narayani River. The body of Hrishipal Sah from India was identified downstream in Golaghat, Chitwan. Authorities have been in contact with his family and are making arrangements for the formal procedures.
Another body, suspected to be that of Ramit Kishor Majhi, a Nepali national, was also found along the riverbanks. His father confirmed his identity, bringing some closure amidst the ongoing uncertainty.
Despite intensive efforts involving divers and personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police, significant challenges remain. The exact location of the buses and the total number of passengers aboard remain unclear, complicating rescue efforts.
The search operation halted at nightfall, is set to resume with renewed vigor and additional resources. Authorities plan to deploy drones, sonar equipment, and other advanced tools to expand the search area downstream. The community near Devghat has been identified as a potential focus area for further exploration.
The incident has prompted a widespread response from local communities and national authorities, with resources and manpower mobilized to aid in the search and rescue mission. As night falls and water levels fluctuate, efforts are ongoing to locate the missing buses and provide closure to the families affected by this heartbreaking incident.
