Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision for Maharashtra. He wants to transform it into a global economic powerhouse and make Mumbai the fintech capital of the world. Speaking in Mumbai, he highlighted the state’s rich history and its strengths in agriculture, industry, and finance.
Foundation Stone for Major Projects
On Saturday, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple projects in Mumbai worth over Rs 29,400 crore. These projects cover various sectors, including roads, railways, and ports, and aim to boost the state’s infrastructure.
Responding to criticisms about unemployment, PM Modi referenced a recent RBI report. He stated that around 8 crore new jobs have been created in the last three to four years, which counters the negative narratives about employment in the country. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for skill development and job creation, especially for the youth.

PM Modi announced a significant skill development project for Maharashtra’s youth. This initiative is expected to further increase employment opportunities in the state. He stressed the importance of skilling the youth to meet the country’s employment needs.
One of the key projects mentioned by PM Modi is the Vadhavan port, recently approved by the central government. This Rs 76,000 crore project is projected to create over 10 lakh jobs. The Prime Minister also spoke about the positive investment climate in Mumbai, noting that both small and large investors have welcomed the BJP-led NDA government’s third term.
PM Modi reiterated his commitment to a developed India (Viksit Bharat) in the next 25 years. He underlined the role of Mumbai and Maharashtra in achieving this goal. Improving the quality of life for people in Mumbai and the surrounding areas is a priority.
Enhancing connectivity, such as completing the coastal road and Atal Setu, is part of this effort. According to the Prime Minister, Atal Setu is used by about 20,000 vehicles daily, saving an estimated Rs 20-25 lakh in fuel costs.
Metro Expansion and Railway Redevelopment
The metro system in Mumbai is rapidly expanding. From just 8 km a decade ago, the metro network has grown to 80 km today, with plans to extend it to 200 km. PM Modi also mentioned the redevelopment of significant railway stations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Nagpur Station, highlighting the transformation of Indian Railways.
