The US Secret Service has committed to fully cooperating with investigations following a shooting incident involving former President Donald Trump over the weekend. Agents were unable to prevent a gunman from shooting and injuring Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The FBI has launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as an assassination attempt. President Joe Biden and members of Congress have also initiated independent reviews, underscoring the seriousness of the event.
In response to the shooting, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle issued her first significant statement, expressing condolences for the rally attendees who lost their lives and outlining increased security measures. Cheatle emphasized that the agency has strengthened security protocols for Trump, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, set to commence shortly.

“I am confident in the security plan our Secret Service RNC coordinator and our partners have put in place, which we have reviewed and strengthened in the wake of Saturday’s shooting,” stated Cheatle.
The Secret Service has implemented immediate changes to Trump’s security detail since the incident to ensure his safety throughout the convention and the remainder of his campaign.
Trump himself confirmed that a bullet grazed his ear during the rally but reassured the public that he was in good health. He proceeded with his scheduled activities, including a trip to Milwaukee on Sunday, where he is expected to formally accept his party’s nomination later this week.
