The Indian government has taken a significant step in supporting Palestinian refugees by releasing USD 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This contribution is part of India’s annual commitment of USD 5 million for the fiscal year 2024-25. UNRWA has been instrumental since 1950 in providing direct relief and developmental programs to registered Palestinian refugees.
India’s Representative Office in Ramallah confirmed the release, highlighting India’s ongoing support for Palestinian welfare. Over the years, India has contributed a total of USD 35 million towards UNRWA’s core services, which include education, healthcare, relief, and social services for Palestinian refugees.

During the recent UNRWA Pledging Conference in New York, India reaffirmed its commitment by not only pledging financial aid but also promising to provide medicines based on UNRWA’s specific needs. This support comes amid ongoing conflicts and humanitarian challenges in the region.
UNRWA relies heavily on voluntary contributions from member states of the United Nations to sustain its operations. The funding from India and other nations is crucial in ensuring the continuity of humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees, especially during times of crisis.
India’s involvement underscores its diplomatic efforts to promote stability and support humanitarian causes on the global stage, emphasizing the importance of timely and sustained aid to vulnerable populations in Palestine.
