The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made significant progress in the NEET-UG paper theft case by arresting two individuals. The accused, Pankaj Kumar from Patna and Raju Singh from Hazaribagh were apprehended for their alleged involvement in stealing and circulating the NEET-UG question papers.
This development follows the earlier arrest of Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky, a key figure in the paper leak scandal, highlighting ongoing efforts to dismantle the conspiracy.
Earlier this month, CBI’s operation spanned across Patna and Kolkata, resulting in multiple arrests connected to the NEET paper leak. The agency employed advanced investigative techniques, including digital footprint analysis such as IP addresses and email communications, to trace and apprehend the suspects. These efforts underscore CBI’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology in combating corruption and fraud.
The NEET-UG examination held on May 5, 2024, was marred by allegations of cheating and paper leaks, further compounded by discrepancies in the evaluation process. Criticism aimed at the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, led to the removal of its chief and the establishment of a review panel to enhance operational standards and credibility.
NEET-UG, conducted by NTA, serves as a gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and related courses across government and private institutions nationwide.
Over 23.33 lakh students participated in the exam at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including overseas venues. The widespread impact of the paper leak scandal has sparked a political uproar, prompting rigorous measures to ensure integrity in future examinations.
