In a recent development, the India-Indonesia-Australia Trilateral Focal Points meeting convened to foster cooperation within the Indo-Pacific region. The meeting, held on Tuesday, saw key representatives from each nation engage in discussions aimed at enhancing collaboration under initiatives such as the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Paramita Tripathi, Joint Secretary (Oceania and Indo-Pacific), led the Indian delegation, while Adi Dzulfuat, Director for Pacific and Oceanic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Indonesia, and Sarah Storey, First Assistant Secretary, South and Central Asia Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, represented Australia.
The discussions focused on various aspects including maritime domain awareness, marine pollution, and cooperation in the blue economy.
The meeting highlighted the alignment between India’s IPOI and ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), underscoring a shared vision for a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. The three nations reiterated their commitment to advancing common values and working together towards regional stability and prosperity.
Earlier in May, the second edition of the India-Australia-Indonesia Trilateral Maritime Security Workshop (TMSW) was hosted at INS Dronacharya, Kochi. Themed ‘Indian Ocean Region: Collaborative Efforts to Enhance Regional Maritime Security’, the workshop brought together naval delegates from India, Indonesia, and Australia to address ongoing maritime security challenges and explore avenues for cooperation.
The workshop, organized under the aegis of Headquarters Southern Naval Command, aimed to strengthen maritime security capabilities in the region. Discussions at the workshop encompassed strategic dialogues on enhancing regional maritime security through collaborative efforts among the three maritime neighbors.
These developments underscore a growing momentum among India, Indonesia, and Australia to deepen their strategic ties and promote stability in the Indo-Pacific, reflecting a concerted effort towards regional integration and security enhancement.
