Iran has strongly denied any involvement in a supposed plot to kill former US President Donald Trump. This statement was made by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Wednesday, as reported by the state-run IRNA news agency. Kanaani firmly rejected the claims, stating that Iran “strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran’s intention for such an action.”
Kanaani emphasized that Iran has no plans or intentions to harm Trump. Instead, Iran is focused on pursuing legal action against Trump for his role in the death of General Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani, who was a high-ranking commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020. This event has been a significant point of contention between Iran and the United States.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the crime of assassinating General Qassem Soleimani,” Kanaani added.
The killing of Soleimani had major geopolitical repercussions, heightening tensions between the US and Iran. At the time, the US government justified the drone strike by labeling Soleimani as a terrorist responsible for orchestrating attacks against US forces and interests in the region. Iran, however, viewed the assassination as an unlawful act of aggression against one of its top military leaders.
In the aftermath of Soleimani’s death, Iran vowed to seek justice through international legal channels. Kanaani’s recent statements reaffirm Iran’s commitment to this pursuit. Despite the recent accusations against Iran regarding the alleged plot to assassinate Trump, the Iranian government remains steadfast in its denial of these claims and focused on its legal battle over Soleimani’s killing.
The situation remains tense, as both countries continue to navigate the complex diplomatic and legal ramifications of these events. Iran’s rejection of the assassination plot accusations and its determination to hold Trump accountable for Soleimani’s death underscores the ongoing friction between the two nations.
