At least three people were killed and multiple others injured following a landslide on the Kedarnath Yatra route on Sunday morning.
The landslide struck the trekking path to Kedarnath Dham in the Rudraprayag district around 7:30 am near the Chirbasa area. Debris and heavy stones began falling from the hillside, according to Nandan Singh Rajwar, the Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer.
A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is conducting relief operations at the site. The bodies of the victims have been handed over to the district police, as confirmed by the SDRF.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased pilgrims. “Relief and rescue work is ongoing at the site of the accident. I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard,” the Chief Minister stated in a post on X.
