President Joe Biden has decided not to run for another term as President of the United States. Instead, he is supporting his Vice President, Kamala Harris, to be the Democratic nominee for the upcoming presidential election.
Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude for Biden’s support, saying, “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and I intend to earn and win this nomination.” She is now officially in the race to become the next President.
Biden announced his decision on Sunday, July 21. He explained that he believes it is time for new leadership and that many people in the Democratic Party are calling for change. He wants to make way for fresh ideas and new energy in the party.
Following Biden’s announcement, many important Democrats quickly showed their support for Harris. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton both endorsed her. They praised Biden for his achievements, such as handling the COVID-19 pandemic, creating jobs, and improving America’s reputation around the world.
They stressed the importance of supporting Harris to stop Donald Trump from winning a second term. They said, “We’ve lived through many ups and downs, but nothing has made us more worried for our country than the threat posed by a second Trump term.”
The Clintons added, “We are honored to join the President in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris and will do whatever we can to support her.” They also warned about the dangers of Trump returning to office, mentioning recent Supreme Court decisions and his promises of more control.
However, not all Democrats are immediately backing Harris. Former President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have not yet endorsed her. Pelosi wants to see an open primary, where different candidates can compete fairly. Meanwhile, Independent Senator Joe Manchin has suggested he might run against Harris, making the primary race more competitive.
As the Democratic Party works to come together, they are preparing for the upcoming Democratic convention. Despite some disagreements, many leaders and supporters are rallying behind Harris, believing she is the best choice to challenge the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.
The party is now focusing on creating a strong campaign to support Harris and address the concerns of all its members.
