The Indian Army soldier who sustained injuries during an anti-terror operation in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kupwara district in early hours of Wednesday has died.
A terrorist was also killed in the overnight encounter, according to the media reports. The Indian Army had launched an anti-terror operation in joint efforts with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The fallen soldier was a noncommissioned officer. ‘Based on specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice on days leading up to 23 July 24’, the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X.
It said the suspicious movement was noticed on Tuesday and the suspects were challenged by vigilant troops. In response, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, leading to a gunbattle.
The Army has said earlier in the day, ‘In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO injured. Operation is in progress’. According to the media reports, fresh rounds of firing took place on Wednesday morning as well. The dead body of the terrorist is yet to be recovered.
Earlier on Tuesday, twin encounters broke out in Kupwara and Poonch district between the armed forces and terrorists, causing fatal injuries to a soldier in Poonch near LoC.
According to the information, the gun battle erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district early on Tuesday morning, when the Army thwarted an infiltration bid by terrorists.
