A speeding bike ran over Kanwariyas who were resting on the roadside in Muzaffarnagar, Madhya Pradesh. The hit-and-run case has claimed the life of one Kanwar Yatra pilgrim and has injured another one. The horrific incident took place on Tuesday night, in Muzaffarnagar city of Uttar Pradesh.
The police said that a group of Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were sleeping on the roadside when a speeding bike mowed them and then fled from the spot.
Police officer Ramashish Yadav said, ‘It was found that 3 Kanwar devotees who were carrying Kanwar were tired and lay down on the side of the road and a Kanwar devotee was sitting there. A speeding bike hit the sleeping devotee and went away’.
The driver of the bike ran away after the accident and the police is still trying to find him. An investigation in the case is underway.The Kanwar Yatra started on the first day of Sawan on Monday and will culminate on August 2.
In one more incident, a car was vandalized and its occupants thrashed by kanwariyas who claimed that it had brushed against them here on the Haridwar-Delhi national highway, said police on the first day of the annual kanwar yatra.
